Building materials

What are building materials?

Materials used as foundation or construction in roads, terrains and buildings: crushed rubble, mixed granulate (repac), steel slag, high-temperature slag and other granulates. Under the Soil Quality Decree, these must meet quality requirements for reuse.

Crushed and mixed granulate (asbestos, organic contaminants)
Iron slags and high-temperature slags (heavy metals)
Asphalt (tar content in asphalt from before 1995)
Other granulates and foundation materials

Reusable or not?

The central question: can this material be reused?

During reconstruction works, large amounts of construction materials are often released into the environment. Repurposing saves on disposal and purchase costs and is more sustainable. We sample in accordance with applicable protocols and have analyses performed by an accredited laboratory.

Can be reused. The material can be used elsewhere in a similar application, for example as a road foundation.

Not necessarily reusable. The material must first undergo a processing step (cleaning or immobilization) before it can be used again.

Not reusable. The material must be transported to a processor.

Based on the results, we assess whether the substance meets the Soil Quality Decision and what application possibilities there are.

Why does the research differ for each building material?

Different building materials have different risk parameters. With steel sludges we look at heavy metals, with mixed granulates we look at asbestos, and with old asphalt we look at tar content (especially before 1995).

Do you also process them?

We do the research. The physical processing is handled by specialized processors. We know the market and help you choose the most cost-effective route.

How quickly is an outcome known?

After sample collection, standard analyses are usually known within two weeks. In urgent cases, we can expedite the process with expedited analyses.
