Buro Antares has carried out combined soil, asphalt, foundation and infiltration studies for several municipalities and civil engineering consulting firms.

With these combined studies, the tar content of the asphalt, the quality of the foundation, the soil quality, and the permeability of the soil are determined in one research phase. A major advantage here is, for example, that traffic is only affected at one time during the work.

Such studies are necessary for reconstructions of roads and the construction of sewer systems.

Preliminary research

The investigation begins with thorough historical research, identifying potential ‘suspect’ locations and the construction period of an asphalt pavement. Subsequently, a site inspection is carried out prior to the investigation. Based on the preliminary research and site inspection, the investigation strategy is finalized. By conducting thorough preliminary research, the investigation is conducted directly at the correct location during the investigation phase, and the scope of the investigation is limited as much as possible.

The research results are compiled into a single report that can serve as part of the tender, on the basis of which the municipality can award the work.

Throughput research

Municipalities regularly have the intention to decouple the drainage of rainwater and infiltrate it as much as possible into the soil. The possibilities for infiltrating rainwater via an infiltration ditch or through wadis depend strongly on the permeability of the soil. Buro Antares can determine the permeability of the soil for this purpose. We do this using the Aardvark method in the unsaturated zone or the inverse Hooghoudt method in the saturated zone.
